Recently, the 2024 World MOOCs and Online Education Conference opened in London, the United Kingdom. With the theme of "Reconstructing the Future of Higher Education in the Intelligent Era", experts in the field of educational digitalization from various countries gathered to exchange and share their insights. Wu Yan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, attended the 2024 World MOOCs and Online Education Conference and delivered a speech.

Wu Yan said that China's higher education digitalization adheres to the "3I" concept of integration, intelligence, and internationalization. It insists on application-oriented, co-construction and sharing, system integration, and capacity-building, achieving a deep integration of digital technology and education and teaching, and is currently promoting a "learning revolution", deepening the "teaching revolution", and further moving towards an "educational revolution", thus blazing a path of digital development for higher education with Chinese characteristics. With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, higher education is accelerating its entry into the stage of intelligent education, and the "first year of intelligent education" has arrived. He hopes to join hands with universities around the world to jointly grasp and adapt to the new requirements of the digital transformation era, consolidate the foundation of intelligent education, enrich the concepts of intelligent education, innovate the models of intelligent education, and build an ecological system of intelligent education, continuously promoting digital-intelligence empowerment and open cooperation, and making new contributions to building a more resilient and sustainable higher education system in the digital-intelligence era.
Analysis shows that Wu Yan's emphasis on China's higher education having entered the era of "artificial intelligence + intelligent education" is mainly based on the following considerations:
First, the important position and influence of artificial intelligence technology. Artificial intelligence technology has become a key force driving technological, industrial, and social changes. It has a profound impact on the education field and is crucial for improving education quality and achieving personalized learning. As artificial intelligence technology continues to progress, it will serve as an important driving force for educational innovation and further facilitate the transformation of educational models.
Second, the far-reaching impact of artificial intelligence on higher education. The impact of artificial intelligence on higher education is all-encompassing. It can penetrate every aspect of teaching and governance. By constructing knowledge maps and competency maps, it promotes the innovation of teaching methods, such as project-based, situational, and research-based teaching, helping universities shift from "knowledge transfer" to "capacity building". Fourth, the need for higher education to adapt to the development of the times. The new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation has led to profound changes in the ways of knowledge generation and dissemination. Education needs to adapt to these changes and use advanced technologies to optimize the teaching process. In the context of globalization, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation and jointly promoting the progress and development of education are important tasks for higher education.
